Padres New Uniforms, Cantu Signing

Blog 1
The Padres made two big moves this past week. The first major move that they did was in the fashion department. The Padres unveiled their new camouflage uniforms that they will be wearing in honor of the military this season. Going back to their days when they played at Qualcomm Stadium, the Padres showed support to the troops by wearing their famous camouflage uniforms for special events such as Memorial Day and 4th of July. But last year the Padres decided to change things up and in the process created a tradition. On every Sunday home game which is usually a 1:05 pm start time, the Padres wear their camouflage uniforms in honor of the military and a special section for the military recruits and service men and women. The service men and women wear their uniforms while watching the game and during the middle of the 4th inning, the entire stadium stands up along with the players, coaches, and even the umpires and gives the military and round of applause as they salute the crowd and the United States flag. It has become a great tradition for the Padres and their fans which is why the Padres are now known as “the team of the military.” The team is calling the new uniforms “Marine Digital.”
The other big change that the Padres made this week was with their team. The Padres signed infielder Jorge Cantu to an $850,000 1 year contract with incentives. I think that this was a great signing for the Padres because without the loss of Jerry Hairston Jr. who was the ultimate utility man, the Padres where without anyone on their bench that could give the infielders some days off.   With the signing of Cantu, this gives the Padres manager Bud Black some more options to play in the infield. Cantu spent last season with both the Marlins and was traded mid season to the Texas Rangers to help solidify their bench as they marched on to their first World Series. With this signing the Padres roster is almost set. The only thing that is still in question is who is going to be the number 5 starter.
